Orthodox Mission, Newport, Oregon

A handful of faithful from the Newport area of the Oregon Coast meet twice a month (see St. Anne Schedule in EVENTS section of this site for exact schedule) in the basement of the American Legion Hall on Olive St. in Newport. Following Divine Liturgy, which is celebrated at 9:30 AM, there is a small meal and then the group moves to the Newport Public Library for a class with the serving priest of the day. Currently the mission community is working through the catechetical material offered to individuals wishing to embrace the Orthodox Faith.

Mission News

Since the beginning of 2012 attendance at the mission in Newport has increased. Also, for the first time, Fr. Stephen blessed the Newport fleet on St. Patrick’s Day – an annual tradition in Newport, Oregon. Numerous vessels passed the Coast Guard Cruiser as Fr. Stephen sprinkled holy water on each and invoked God’s blessings asking for safety and a successful catch.
